For Example 1, I’m using A Mixolydian.

Starting with the open G string you can achieve a nice interval jump.

Which is cool here because you’re jumping again to the 1st string.

A couple muted strings also add to the feel toward the end of the phrase.

Ex.1

E|--------5------------0-----------------------------------|
B|------------8---7----------8-----------------------------|
G|0h5h6--6---6---6---7s9---9s7-5---7---5b------------------|
D|--------------------------------------7---x----7---5b-7--|
A|--------------------------------------------------x------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------|

Example 2 makes a lot of use of the open E string. The D provides a little tension on the 2nd string but always comes back to that C# . A lot more open string toward the end of the line helps to round out this lick in A.

Ex. 2

E|--0---0----0---0----0----0---------------------------------|
B|3---3---2----3---3----2----------0----0--------------------|
G|------------------------------0h2----0---------0-----------|
D|--------------------------------------------0h2-----5------|
A|---------------------------------------------------5---3b-0|
E|-----------------------------------------------------------|
