Power chords and open chords are all very important however, Rock guitar can’t truly exist without barre chords.

These chord forms are based on the open chord shapes but use the first finger as a “barre” to transpose the shapes across the fingerboard.

Basically, you’re forming a new nut and moving it around the fingerboard.

You only need to learn a few shapes and you can play a lot of chords!

Below are basic major and minor shapes categorized into two 6th string forms and two 5th string forms.

Wherever you place your first finger is the name of the chord…it’s that simple!
